Beatrix Turns One!

k

It's pretty hard to believe, but Beatrix turned one on Thursday! Despite her ear infection and fever, she still managed to have a pretty good 1st birthday. We had a bumblebee party and I went a little crazy on the black and yellow theme, to say the least. As you can see from the cake-heavy photo post, I'm pretty proud of our cake! I baked it, Tiff iced it and Gavin finished the details. We're a good team.

We had an intimate but wonderful day with a bouncy and face-painting and homemade pizzas. Our kitchen turned into a mini pizzeria with the pizza stone in the oven.

The kids ran around while the adults enjoyed some wine and sunshine. Beatrix danced cheek to cheek with her daddy and played a new game of picking leaves from the ficus trees, which she thought was hilarious.

On her actual birthday we sat and talked about Beatrix's birth and Gavin and Tiff reminisced about sleeping on the "bed" in the hospital room and trumping in each other's faces. Lovely memories.

Today I took Beatrix for her one year check up and although she still has a nasty ear infection in both ears and is allergic to the antibiotics, in every other one year old way, she's just perfect!

But we already knew that.

Sunny Mud Time

The weather has been has been really beautiful this week. I think that this is one of my favorite times of year. The garden is starting to burs into life and Tallulah has been having so much fun watering the plants everyday when we come home from school. I gave in and abandoned my fear of mud and just let them play in the squelch that Tallulah created with the hose. They had the best time. I mean look at those beautiful faces. Sometimes I just can't believe that they're mine.
